The last entries into the series were both released in 2014, with Gearbox releasing Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Telltale taking the reins on Tales from the Borderlands. Since then, we’ve been treated to a technical test of the engine that will power the upcoming cel-shaded shooter. We first heard official word of Borderlands 3 back in 2015 when Pitchford announced a recruitment drive for the game.

Of course, this isn’t necessarily Borderlands 3 that he is referring to but since no one wants to see another Aliens: Colonial Marines, it more than likely is the developer’s most successful series that we can expect. Gearbox isn’t just working on what people want most, but 90 percent of the company according to CEO Randy Pitchford at his panel at PAX West. Fans of the series can more than likely rejoice, however, as the company is “working on the thing most of you guys want us to be working on.” Gearbox Software has been coy about its next entry into the Borderlands series, opting to focus on other games in its library such as Battleborn and more recently picking up We Happy Few.
